Threshold of Quiet is a residential renovation project located in the Motahari district of Tehran. The design redefines the interior landscape of a typical apartment by introducing a new spatial hierarchy — one that carefully articulates transitions between functions, materials, and atmospheres. At the core of the project lies a soft platformed living space, nested within a warm wooden shell, subtly elevated to suggest ritual and pause.
The renovation strategy emphasizes material contrast and control of light. Natural wood surfaces wrap the ceiling, walls, and cabinetry, grounding the domestic experience in warmth and tactility. In juxtaposition, glossy black volumes and ribbed glass panels introduce precision, reflection, and a slight spatial ambiguity. The kitchen becomes both anchor and threshold—acting as a central spatial device that mediates between intimacy and openness.
This intervention is not just a cosmetic upgrade but a rethinking of how quiet, light, and proportion can shape daily life within the urban context. The home is no longer a series of disconnected rooms but a continuous narrative of surfaces, shadows, and soft thresholds.
